Here Layla is, dreaming about Carl.
Unfortunately, Layla overslept. All she had time for was quick bowl of cereal before having to change into her uniform and run out the door.
Layla managed to find the police station without too much trouble. Since it was her first day and since she was completely exhausted, she spent most of her first day listening to Carl explaining the procedures of the police station. Now that she was getting to know him a little better, Layla wondered if he was also having trouble sleeping. He looked so . . . pale. She also discovered that Louis Swete did not work at the police station. A man named Sebastian Vanderburg was. Though he was also hot stuff, Layla heard whispers around the police station of his reputation and decided to keep a professional distance. The last three hours of her job were sheer torture, despite Carl's helpfulness. She was exhausted and stressed out, what with getting the house together and keeping her pets happy. The first thing when she got home was stagger to the couch.
Fortunately, Crosby and Buffy had been able to keep themselves pretty entertained throughout the day.
After Layla had a short nap, she had to get up to grab a bite to eat. She had planned to do some laundry and take a shower, but a rain storm began to come down in sheets, complete with lightning, scaring both Crosby and Buffy. Since she had to comfort Crosby and Buffy, she once again didn't get to bed until very late.
With a groan, she fell asleep, not looking forward to work at all, even if Carl Abbot would be there.
~~~
When Layla let him in the house, Crosby took an aversion to the television. *Shrugs*
Also, since it's so rainy out all the freaking time, Layla decided to buy a dryer. Unfortunately for her, the only place it really fit was in her bedroom.
Humphrey 1.2 Chores
Layla woke up late to the sound of rain pounding on the roof. I'm really glad I got those roofers to finish yesterday. She saw Crosby at the foot of the bed - he had come in out of the rain and brought her the newspaper. Definitely a genius. I need to train him how to hunt. Too bad I can't train him to deal with my laundry. Ugh.
After recycling the newspaper, Layla made a breakfast of waffles. This should be easy. I saw my mom do this a hundred times! And of course, she burned the waffles. She still ate them - they were the first waffles Layla had made on her own.
Buffy spent part of her morning trapped in the box stall, so I had to reset her. Here she is on a way to a soothing salt lick.
Crosby has got to be one of the world's easiest dogs to train, ever. He's already gained the loyalty and non-destructive traits. This is him, guarding the house. Good dog, Crosby.
Layla used the bathroom, picked up the laundry, and took out the trash. As she puttered around the house, she sighed. I wish I could see Champs Les Sims some day. She took a shower and watched a little television. She decided it was a good time, while she was thinking about it, to cancel her newspaper subscription. The quick glance at it had confirmed her suspicions: I've seen better journalism lining bird cages! Layla spent her rainy Monday reading a logic book, which she was fascinated by, and doing chores.
She spent some time with Buffy, ensuring the horse they were still friends. She trained Crosby to hunt.
Layla noticed everyone was a little sleepy.
Layla said, "I got a good night's rest and I know they did too. Must be the rainy day, a Monday today. Hey, what am I talking to myself for? That will just make me feel old." [Author's note: Couldn't resist!] She was so busy puttering around, that she didn't get to bed until late. Even though she knew it would spell trouble tomorrow.
~~~
Didn't get to put this in the story, but I thought the picture of Crosby and Buffy nuzzling was too cute not to share.
I went to bed myself not long after Layla did, and when I woke up, Sims had crashed. Fortunately, I'm getting myself in the habit of saving after every Sim day, so only a bit of Day 3 is lost.

Hidden Springs - Humphrey Week 1 Day 1 (1.1) House
Week 1
Day 1
It was a hot day in summer when Layla Humphrey first moved into Hidden Springs with her dog Crosby and her horse Buffy. Though she only had $17, 750 to her name, she was happy she had her pets.
Since no available house suited her pet arrangement, she just bought a plot of land, 77 Subalpine Blvd, for $3,200.
Layla, with her adventurous spirit, was not afraid, even though she and her animals had just come to a completely empty plot of land. She might be over-emotional at times, but she loved her animals and they kept her sane. Even when she went off on one of her eccentric times. And given all she had on her shoulders, Layla didn't have time for superstitious nonsense like supernatural beings.
Crosby, the sole male member of the household, was just as adventurous as Layla. He was also neat, which helped her when she just wanted to throw things in her eccentricity. He had a genius to him, Layla just knew it.
Buffy, though quiet, was very companionable. Layla hoped that some day, with Buffy's natural speed and agility, she and Buffy might win some championships.
Layla looked at their empty plot of land and realized the first thing she should do was to get to work building a shelter for the three of them. But she just couldn't resist brushing Crosby - his fur was so matted!
After a good brushing, Layla built her house as simply as she could, making sure Buffy would have a place to sleep and that both her pets would have food and water. She bought a toy box for Crosby as well, feeling bad that she couldn't really afford any training materials for Buffy yet, since Layla wasn't sure what the taxes would be like in Hidden Springs.
She looked over her finances after buying everything and was pleased that she had $2,466 left. Now to find a job. Though Layla herself had wanted to be a paranormal profiteer, she knew that she needed to go law enforcement. It was what was expected in her family. If she made a success out of it, then she might be allowed to do what she liked. She sighed with great reservation. Before I get started with all that, I'm going to make sure Crosby and Buffy are settled.
She played with Crosby and Buffy until the sun went down, then went inside and realized something. I cannot believe I went to the store and completely forgot to buy any lamps! After buying a few lodge lights, she was down to less than $2000. And that was when Layla realized something else: she still didn't have a job. But she also hadn't had dinner or made sure Buffy was fed. This whole being on my own business is absurd.
Layla quickly scattered some hay for Buffy, then made a quick meal of bread and jam. She sighed as she looked around her meager dwellings. I need a car, better appliances, a boyfriend. She choked down the bread and jam in front of the still bank television. Not to mention hook up the cable. She washed the dishes - at least there's not much to clean up - and took a cab to the police station. And it was there she first met Louis Swete and Carl Abbot - the first two Sims she'd met in this town. Louis Swete - well, there was no nice way of putting it. He was odd looking. It wasn't that he was old, Layla decided as she took her shower, it was just that his skin appeared to be . . . green.
Carl Abbot, on the other hand, was decidedly not odd looking. Layla sighed at the thought. Definitely very dreamy. Too bad I won't get to see him again until Tuesday.
Buffy and Crosby were settling in well. There's so much room to run around here! Whee! Buffy thought.
So many new things to sniff! Crosby barked. I love my new newspaper squeaky toy! And my pet bed!
Layla made sure her pets were cared for, then went to sleep, dreaming of green-skinned men, barking dogs, her new house, and Carl Abbot. [Author's Note: I misspelled that as Carol three times in three different places before I noticed it! XD)
Thus ended Layla's first day in Hidden Springs.

Here's a small tour of the house (a very small tour since it's a very small house) (also, this was done before I put in lights or laundry. Whoops!) (it's black because that's Layla's favorite color)
